PHOENIX — Police have released descriptions of a possible suspect and a person of interest after a woman was shot and killed in a south Phoenix parking lot Monday night.
Phoenix Police Department spokesperson James Holmes said the shooting occurred around 8 p.m. in the parking lot of a Kmart store at 3rd Street and Baseline Road.
The victim has been identified as 48-year-old Luz Navarro.
According to Holmes, the suspect apparently walked up to Navarro after she got into her vehicle and shot her. She reportedly died at the scene.
Holmes said witnesses told police they had seen the suspect in the parking lot for a good length of time before the shooting and had made contact with one of the witnesses.
Witnesses also apparently reported they saw the suspect get out of a pickup truck which then left the area.
After witnesses heard a gunshot, they reportedly saw the suspect leave the area on foot through the parking lot.
Police described the suspect as a Black male between 25- and 28-years-old, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 180 pounds. He was reportedly clean shaven, wearing a black “hoodie” sweatshirt/jacket, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.
Investigators are also looking for a “person of interest” who was described as a male with a light complexion, possible Hispanic, driving a 1980s primer gray Chevrolet pickup.
Holmes said there is no clear motive for the shooting, although robbery might have been the intent.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-6151 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
